 Dust jacket quotes...
01:58
|
|
I got an email today at work that cracked me up. It was from an ex-boss of mine that's living in Germany now. A mutual friend of ours forwarded the Goblins site to him and he sent me a simple, two sentence email. And when I do finally get the book, he's totally getting quoted on the back of the dust jacket. It will say: "A Gross of Goblins... is awesome. It's like Edward Gorey with fart jokes." ~ R. Berger Whilst I'm at it, I should probably mention that I've got the RSS feed for the Goblins set up and live. If you're into that sort of thing, you can get your feed on here: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/AGrossOfGo And if you miss seeing them in your friends list (I know I miss posting them) you can add the LJ RSS Syndicated feed to your friends list! http://syndicated.livejournal.com/gobli That's pretty much it for me. Working way too much lately. Working on Goblin stuff and some project stuff and doing some hanging out when I can. |

 Procrastinating and finger painting...
23:32
|
|
Avoiding things what need doing... instead, I did a little fingerpainting with an app called Brushes on the iphone.
Mostly just playing around, but I rather like the result. Minor touch-ups done in photoshop (signature, etc.) but mostly just done with a finger on a tiny little screen. They really need to add layer functionality to the App. Ok, I've got half an hour to put this week's Goblins update, I should get to that. mmmyep. |

So. I guess I never posted about it. I suppose I've been rather busy of late what with getting my affairs in order, packing, apartment hunting, launching a website, and playing Little Big Planet. I guess this is the announcement. I've been offered (and have accepted) a job at a studio down in Irvine. So I'm throwing my cat in a box and moving back down south. I tend not to discuss work stuff publicly, so I'll just say that it's a large-ish and quite stable studio with multiple projects going at any given time. (no, it's not Blizzard) They seem like a great place, and have an excellent location... so I'm in. As of today, after a couple of weeks of searching, I have secured an awesome place to live in Costa Mesa and I can't wait to move in! (it's on the edge of the barrio, so I got a great deal!) A flickr photoset of some quick shots I did today on the walkthrough can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hexed/sets/7 So, upwards and onwards, as they say! There's stuff I'll miss about living up here, but in general Th' Valley is crap. Crap with the occasional diamond embeded in it. I'm pretty excited about the move and the new job and all the adventures they will bring. Let's see what happens! |

Dear San Fernando Valley, There's no easy way to say this, so I'm going to be blunt. I'm leaving you. It's not you, it's m... erm... actually, yes. It is you. Your summers are terrible, your winters are miserable. There's four weeks in the spring and four in the fall that I don't hate you, but that does not a living relationship make. Please try not to take it too personally. I'm sure there's someone out there for you. Someone that doesn't care for things like ocean breezes and foggy nights. Someone that actually enjoys when it's 95 degrees at midnight on a september night. Someone that actually likes the musty smell of window-mounted AC units. And someone that has no interest in going on bike rides along beach trails. There is someone out there that is perfect for you, but sadly... that person is not me. So I'm leavng you. Don't try to talk me out of it. My mind is made up. And before you even say it, no I haven't been living somewhere else behind your back. Though, to be honest, I have been looking around. I've met some very nice places. The kinds of places that I wouldn't mind seeing more of. The kinds of places that I wouldn't mind being from. I've already begun packing my things. Please don't try to hinder me. Don't all of a sudden start having nice weather and clean air. Don't even try telling me that you'll work on your traffic problem. You'll just be embarrassing yourself. ~S |

 Stinky.

Haven't been posting much lately. Been dealing with some personal bullshit, working back at NL (for now) to keep the cat fed, getting some loose ends tied up or cut off, and working on the Goblins site. That makes for one super exhausted Me. I apologize for any real or perceived flakery on my part. But! As a part of my cleaning, clearing, and purging phase... I located some old notebooks in some old boxes in the back of my closet that I hadn't opened in years. There, in the margins of old school notes from my A+ Cert class, I found the original drawings of 18 Goblins that I thought were forever lost. This is a VERY good thing. Also there were countless self-portrait cartoons of myself trying to stay awake in that boring, and mostly obsolete, class. Because I've got nothing much of interest to say just now, I give you... a stink bug. ![]() |

hmmm... it would appear that may have a bit of a problem.

You know you've got a tinkering or modding problem when the ballast of one of your almost brand new desk lamps is going on the fritz... and you're GLAD because it means you can gut the thing, rewire it right, and add some additional functionality. And you might as well do both of them at the same time whilst you're at it. It's only right, afterall.

Inspiration can be found in all places...
06:01
|
|
Even sometimes in ancient videogames... inspiring things can sneak up on you. This, from a random readable journal found in the nemesis' hideout in 'Thief: The Dark Project' from way back in 1998: The world as I once knew it was a place of magic - Full of mystery and inhabited by creatures of glamour and terror. The men who lived there lit their bonfires and wondered at what crept and lurked in the darkness outside their weak circles of light. All their dreams, their aspirations and dreads come from that darkness. Now, as the forces of "progress" cover the meadows in brick and cobblestone, as they replace the majestic loft of tree with the blocky ponderousness of building, they also light the world in their electric, actinic glare. With the lighting of the shadows, man loses his ability to fear, and to dream. ~Constantine |

A momentary glimpse into my mind...
03:23
|
|
Sitting here working on some PHP code for the site I'm almost finished with and apparently I wasn't using a part of my brain and it got bored, made some shit up, and shoved it in front of everything else. I just had a vision of a post-apocalypse armor jacket that's made from a black leather jacket with the sleeves torn off and bottle caps (painted black, but mostly scratched off) rivetted all over it to make an external sort of brigandine and with shoulder pads made from two strips of tire tread. I may need to make one of these! Time to open that case of Bass Ale in the fridge and cruise the thrift stores looking for leather jackets. Yes... my brain is a strange place, but where would I be without it? |

Oh joy and stomach cramps! I have experienced today a thing born of purest Malice. Where most cheese is made of Milk, I do believe that this cheese was made of Hate. The Cat is waiting quite patiently for me to stop groaning and expire. He'll probably lie here curled up with my corpse until I cease to provide warmth. Then the snacking will begin. |

Phew... just more than a seven hour marathon of getting tattooed today. My brother Boris came up to Th' Voltaire today to do some tune-up / rejuvination / pain ritual work on all but two of my tattoos. For those counting along at home, that's four of them completely redone and another four with significant retouching. Some of these were as much as sixteen years old, and being bold, black pieces... they were in need of re-sharpening and darkening. I look like I have escaped from the hospital very bandaged, slightly bloody, and mostly naked. Let's see, I can currently wear... hats and shorts. I am so drained from the ordeal. But also feeling so very serene. |

 New Monitors!

![]() My two new 24 inch monitors arrived today. The picture doesn't really do them justice. They're freakin' huge! I'm floored by how much more screen workspace I have! When one of my old nineteen-inchers started dying recently, I was forced to continue working on a single monitor and it was hell for my workstyle. I was able to get by, but my productivity suffered something furious. When I unboxed these things and set them up today, I was in awe. |
